Douglas County Public Library

Local Author Gathering
Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th, with times to be scheduled soon.
Scan the QR below or head here to fill out our Google interest form to be considered.
Authors will have an opportunity to sell copies of their books, do a reading, answer questions, and meet readers in a casual setting. This event is open to traditionally published and indie published authors in our community. Due to limited event space, we might not be able to accommodate all applicants. If permitted, the library will retain your contact information for future events. If you have any questions about the event or this form, please contact us at [email protected].

******* One of our book suppliers, Baker & Taylor, recently went out of business. *******
Unfortunately, this is causing delays in receiving new materials. We appreciate your patience as we work to re-order through another vendor.
*** JANUARY 9 LIBRARY OUTAGE UPDATE ***
Circulation data from the 9th was lost due to a power spike, affecting all check-outs, check-ins, and holds placed on Friday the 9th.
We are working diligently to re-update circulation data. Please keep in mind notices may go out for overdue items that you already returned. We never charge late fees, so if you receive a notice but are confident the item was returned, know that it will be removed from your account soon.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge

Sharing just one book a night gives your child the building blocks for lifelong success!

It doesn't matter if your child is three, or just three months - there's no better time to start than now!
Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, promotes bonding, and helps kids do well overall in school. Take that motivation, open one book, and get started.

And remember, 1000 is just a number. The goal is to work reading aloud into your regular routine, and let the magic of stories do the rest.

Library Literary Journal
We are also launching a literary journal to feature the talent of local writers who live in, or have ties to, Douglas County and the surrounding area. Submissions will be accepted from February 1 - May 31, 2026. We accept most forms of nonfiction and fiction, including: short stories, essays, prose, flash fiction, poetry, and self-contained excerpts from larger works (i.e. a chapter of a story that makes sense on its own). The interest form with further details can be found here
