Spooky Story Contest

The Douglas County Public Library is holding a Spooky Story Contest for all ages. Dates for submission are October 1st through October 28th. Voting will occur between November 1st and 4th. There will be prize baskets for 1st and 2nd place winning entries in each age range.

Submission requirements:

Kids (ages 5-12) create a monster, write a 3 sentence description about the monster, and draw a picture. 
Teens (ages 13-17) write an original spooky story including a monster in Douglas County that is 1-2 pages in length, double spaced. An accompanying drawing is optional.
Adults (ages 18+) write an original scary story 5 pages in length maximum, double spaced. 

Submissions can be turned in by email to [email protected], or by dropping them off at the Minden Library, Lake Tahoe Branch, or on the Bookmobile. One submission per person. Submissions must be accompanied by a registration form. No graphic violence or sexual content please. Work published previously in any copyrighted newspaper, magazine, book or other medium is ineligible. 
The Spooky Story Contest is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 

Murder Mystery Party

Murder Mystery Party

The Douglas County Public Library will be hosting a Sherlock Holmes themed Murder Mystery Party for adults at the Minden Library on Tuesday, November 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

Participants are asked to sign up in advance in person at the Minden Library, by phone at 775-782-9841, or by emailing the library at [email protected]. The guest list with character choices will be available at the front desk or viewed here. When signing up, please provide a first and second choice for character selection, as characters are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Costumes are encouraged, but not required to participate! Please contact the library with any questions.

Light refreshments will be provided.

DCPL Strategic Planning Survey

The Douglas County Public Library is currently embarking on the development of a new five-year strategic plan.  As part of this effort, faculty from the University of Nevada, Reno have developed a community survey designed to gather input that will be used to help shape this strategic plan and ongoing and future program, resource, and service development that the Library will pursue over the next five years.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey online, available at:
