Who Are the Friends?
The Friends of the Douglas County Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of library
supporters dedicated to supporting, contributing to and promoting the Douglas County
Public Library. When you join the Friends, you support a valuable community resource -
the Douglas County Public Library. Your membership is for one year from the date you
join and entitles you to a discount at the Friends of the Library book sales.
Our membership includes students, teachers, parents, grandparents, business leaders,
community leaders and interested citizens. A Board of Directors is elected annually from
the membership, by the membership, and serves a one-year term.
What Do the Friends Do?
The Douglas County Public Library serves a growing community. The library's annual
operating budget is negotiated from limited funds each year and is funded primarily by a
dedicated sales tax. The Friends of the Douglas County Library provides "no strings"
funding to support a wide variety of special programs and projects that enrich, expand
and enhance what the library has to offer children, teens and adults. These programs and
projects promote literacy and learning, and contribute to a strong community supported
by a strong library.
